Venues light it blue to salute the NHS

Published: 25 Mar 2020

Venues across the UK will send out a message of thanks to the NHS and healthcare professionals tomorrow evening (Thursday 26 March) by illuminating themselves blue.

The #Lightitblue campaign will see around 40 landmarks, historic buildings and major sporting and entertainment venues illuminated as a simultaneous display of gratitude for those working tirelessly to look after Britons who are ill with COVID-19.

Participating venues include Wembley Stadium, Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, Alexandra Palace, The Principality Stadium, The SSE Hydro Arena, Bournemouth International Centre, ACC Liverpool, the QEII Centre, the NEC and Manchester Central

ExCel London (pictured above), which is being transformed into the NHS Nightingale Hospital to provide an initial extra 500 beds equipped with ventilators and oxygen, will also turn blue.

Gary White, Managing Director of White Productions who spearheaded the initiative says: “The events and entertainment industry finds itself in an unprecedented state of enforced inaction. The best thing we can do – apart from staying at home – is to use our skills and networks to say thank you to the healthcare professionals risking their own health to help others during this pandemic.”
