Kuala Lumpur is a very modern city which is home to the Petronas Twin Towers and the seat of Parliament. It is located in the southwest Malaysia Peninsula, northwest of Singapore. Kuala Lumpur was not built until 1857 when 87 miners and traders came in search of tin, poled up the river to where the Klang and Gombak rivers converge. The city is served by Kuala Lumpur International Airport which is 24 miles south of the city. There is an express train service which takes 28 minutes and operates every 20 minutes or by road the journey is around 45 minutes.
