Shanghai is the largest city in China, situated where the Yangtze River enters the East China Sea. The city grew as a sea port, however, in the last 15 years, the city has tripled in size with a population of 21 million people and is continuing to grow rapidly. Previously known as the Paris of the East, Shanghai now has more skyscrapers than New York and a public transport system that will soon overtake London's in size. The Shanghai region, including the two adjoining provinces, accounts for 30% of China's foreign exports and attracts 25% of all foreign investment into the country, while 20% of its manufacturing output is produced here. Shanghai is serviced by the Pudong International Airport which is 18 miles from the city centre and Hongqiao International Airport located 8 miles from the city centre.
